Vietnam\u2019s Digital Shift in Banking<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Vietnam is moving fast in its digital transformation. More than 84 percent of adults own smartphones, with mobile\u2011internet penetration now exceeding 85% of the population in 2026<\/a>. Around 88\u201389 percent hold a payment account, reflecting further expansion of financial inclusion beyond the 87% mark<\/a>. Mobile payment volumes continue to grow by roughly 60\u201370% per year, not strictly doubling but still rising at a very high compound rate. Digital\u2011banking\u2011related revenue is now projected to exceed $1.2\u20131.3 billion by 2026\u20132027<\/a>, driven by transaction fees, app\u2011based services, and embedded\u2011finance products. Meanwhile, e\u2011commerce is forecast to surpass $17\u201318 billion by 2026, above the earlier $15.4 billion 2025 target. Card use remains low at around 3\u20134 percent of adults, but adoption is accelerating with card\u2011linked QR and contactless payments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Banks face pressure to keep up. Fintech firms push new experiences. Customers demand speed, ease, and security. Many banks struggle with old systems that are slow to update or scale. That\u2019s where cloud banking steps in. A good cloud solution lets banks experiment, add features, and scale securely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cloud Banking Adoption in Practice<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Many institutions now run parts of their core systems on the cloud or in hybrid setups. In 2024, Vietnam International Bank (VIB) became the first to run the Temenos R23 core banking system on AWS cloud and its private cloud. This gives them better security, smoother operations, and less cost during peak demand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ABBANK also moved half its IT services to a hybrid cloud with Google Cloud\u2019s Anthos platform, built in collaboration with Cloud Ace and CMC Telecom. This helped lower total cost and speed delivery of their digital services like AB Ditizen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

VPBank migrated 28 applications to AWS in just 11 months. They reported performance scaling up from 6 percent to 42 percent, and optimized costs by 51 percent. Over 2,000 staff received AWS training to drive cloud fluency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cloud Banking and Fintech Technology<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Cloud banking is powering fintech technology in Vietnam too. TNEX, the first digital-only bank, built on Mambu\u2019s API-first cloud platform via AWS. This approach lets TNEX launch in phases, focusing on customer-first design without worrying about infrastructure.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

PVcomBank teamed with Vemanti to create a digital-banking platform built using cloud computing, APIs, AI, machine learning, and blockchain. This solution targeted SMEs and under-banked groups, while still allowing access to physical branches.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In open banking, Brankas and Vilja are helping banks adopt cloud-native, composable core systems with secure open APIs. This supports compliance with the State Bank of Vietnam\u2019s rules issued in March 2025 and helps modernize banking infrastructure. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
